NCYSA to Host 2010 Kohl's Cup

This year is exciting for NCYSA, we look forward in hosting the 2010 Kohl's Cup.  This event will not only benefit the soccer community but Nelson County as a whole - restaurants, hotels, retail stores, etc...will all see the flow of business increase during this event.

The Kohl's Cup provides recreational youth soccer players an opportunity to experience a consistent and high quality statewide tournament in a fun, family-like atmosphere.  It fosters stimulation and excitement about soccer in an effort to increase the recreational players interest in and love for the game.

The Kohl's can achieve this by providing recreational players with the opportunity to participate in an original event outside of their normal league play.  Nationwide, more than 60 Kohl's American Cup events are scheduled, and one thing each of them have in common is the goal of providing all participants with the opportunity to experience a consistent and high-quality tournament in a fun, festival-like atmosphere.

Team of the Week

This year NCYSA along with Bearno's Pizza will honor a team of the week.  This team will have their picture in the Kentucky Standard Sports Section and in this Section of our website.  Please watch each week for your team to appear!

NCYSA Silent Saturday Event

"Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together; that at length they may emerge, full-formed and majestic, into the daylight of Life.”

Teachers insist on the importance of silence for inner growth.    Saturday we watched as the children in fact showed each and every one of us their inner growth.  As we all silently sat back and watched them play the game of soccer by remembering what they had learned and to use those techniques without anyone instructing them in anyway.  As for myself and many others involved last Saturday was a learning experience that the children had in fact listened and learned from the practices that had been conducted each week, and they could play the game without the instructions from coaches, parents, etc.  I sat back and watched as the team took control of the game and noticed that they were communicating unlike any other Saturday of play.  Most games are played with confusion; the children don’t know who to listen to whether it is the coaches or the sideline of family and friends giving them instructions.  I come to the conclusion that in fact our teams could play their games more efficiently and with more ambition and fun without the voices echoing from the sidelines.  It became clear that they know the game and how to play it and in fact practice is just that to practice and teach the skills of the game, and when the game is being played that is the time to sat back and measure what you have taught them.

On Saturday, September 26th the Nelson County Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) held a “Silent Saturday”.  In this event the coaches, referees, and spectators were asked to be silent throughout the games.  This even was a great success and we at the NCYSA would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the event; without your participation “Silent Saturday” would not have been so successful.

NCYSA is Looking for Several Adult Referees

NCYSA is looking for several adults that are already referees or willing to become referees for the upcoming spring season. Usually in the spring because of the older kids playing competitive soccer we sometimes have trouble finding age appropriated referees for the older age group games. If you are already a certified referee and are willing to referees games please contact our referee commissioner, Chuck Russman at (502) 639-5009. If you are not certified and are interested in becoming a soccer referee go to KY Soccer Referee Association and click on "Recertification/Entry Level Courses" and then click on "District Three" to see when a course is being held so that you can become certified.

Being a referee for soccer games is a great way to earn some extra cash and also a great way to get some exercise. Click here to see our referee fees.
